When I hitch hiked in Mongolia with Igor, I carried with me three pages of useful Mongolian phrases. I tore them out of the back of a free travel guide that were being given out at the post office in Ulaan Baatar.
During our journey, we frequently consulted this reference to help communicate with locals. I photographed these pages and used them to create this free guide.
Google translate will never generate the warm response you get when you actually try to talk with locals in their native language. Furthermore, electricity and cell connection are scarce in rural Mongolia. Your phone cannot be relied on. Print out this guide before you travel, I’m sure you’ll find it useful!
Speaking in the local language leads to moments like these….
No tour groups, just naturally meeting people and making friends.
