What is a “Visa Extension?”

When you enter Thailand as a foreigner, you either enter with a visa or receive an entry stamp. Either way, you will have a “leave before” date stamped in your passport.

A visa extension allows you stay an additional 30 days before you must leave the country. You can only get one visa extension per entry.

This is what a visa extension stamp looks like.

How to apply:

To get an extension, you must visit a local immigration center and submit the following documents along with 1,900 baht. The process usually takes about 90 minutes.

You do not need to wait to the last second to apply. The extension will be for 30 days after the “leave by” date on your entry stamp, NOT the date you apply.

Required Documents Checklist

  • Passport
  • Departure card
  • Photocopies of important passport pages
